What really sells it is how unclean the pacing is. You might be chatting about your stolen app one moment, then you click the “wrong” response and suddenly you’re groping a stacked aunt-type character in the hallway while she half-heartedly pretends to say no, and you can either stop or double down into full-on blackmail path.
